A Little Rain, a Lot of Yellow Smiles: Hankki Highfield’s Grand Opening
On September 5, 2026, we officially opened the doors to Hankki Highfield our 13th location and celebrated a new chapter with the people who made it possible.
But the celebration began a little earlier, with our own team.
On August 14, we gathered for a small staff party to celebrate the upcoming opening. It was a chance to share our excitement and for the Highfield team to strengthen their commitment to supporting one another, putting care into every meal, and making every guest feel welcome.
With that shared commitment, we were ready to welcome our community on September 5.
A New Home in Highfield
Every Hankki opening is special, but Highfield marks a particularly meaningful step in our journey.
Along with welcoming guests for their favourite Hankki meals, this location is intended to serve as our central kitchen. It’s a space that will play an important role as we continue to grow, making it both a new place to visit and a home for the work happening behind the scenes.
Opening our 13th location gave us a reason to celebrate, but it also gave us a moment to pause and appreciate how far we’ve come.
Every order, every visit, every recommendation to a friend, and every person who has come back for another meal has helped us get here. Highfield is part of that shared story, and we couldn’t imagine opening its doors without inviting you to be part of the celebration.
A Warm Welcome on a Rainy Day
Outside, the rain kept coming. Inside, our team was ready.
“Welcome to Hankki!”
That was the greeting waiting for guests as they walked through the doors. Our staff welcomed everyone with energy and excitement, ready to turn a wet afternoon into a celebration worth coming out for.
To thank some of our earliest guests, we gave picnic mats to the first 20 customers who placed an order. The weather might not have been ideal for a picnic that day, but we hope those mats make an appearance on a sunnier afternoon with good company and perhaps a little Hankki takeout nearby.
We also celebrated with 30% off, plus an additional 20% discount for guests who arrived wearing yellow.
Yellow felt especially fitting on a day when the sky wasn’t giving us much sunshine. Thank you to everyone who dressed for the occasion and brought a little extra Hankki colour into the celebration.
Of course, there was plenty to eat. Guests enjoyed our corndogs and bowls, and between bites, activities, and time spent together, there were plenty of ways to settle in and enjoy the opening.
For us, watching people enjoy the space was one of the best parts. After all the preparation that goes into opening a location, the moment it fills with guests is when it starts to feel real.
Your Name, Please 💛
At Hankki Highfield, you might notice something a little different when your food is ready.
Instead of calling out an order number, we call your name.
It’s a small change, but one that makes picking up your meal feel a little more personal like being greeted again, this time with something delicious waiting for you.
During the grand opening, that personal touch became part of the welcome. Even with the rain outside and the excitement inside, we wanted each guest to feel individually acknowledged.
For us, “More Than a Meal” lives in these little moments, too. A warm hello when you arrive, your name when your order is ready, and a thank-you before you go.
So when you visit Highfield, listen for your name. We’ll have something good ready for you.
The Corndog Cheese Pull Challenge

At our grand opening, guests put their steady hands and cheese-pulling skills to the test in our Cheese Pull Challenge! With a Hankki gift card worth up to $100 on the line, every extra centimetre counted.
1 metre: A free Hankki bowl
2 metres: A $50 Hankki gift card
3 metres: A $100 Hankki gift card
Everyone had their own technique, and watching the cheese stretch a little farther was half the fun. Seven participants reached the 2-metre mark and took home $50 gift cards! Congratulations to our winners, and thank you to everyone who joinaed in. 🎉

Your Smile, Your Way
The cheese pull wasn’t the only way to join in.
We also set aside a space for Hankki Face Drawing, where guests could share their own interpretation of a smile.
The idea was simple: There’s no rule.
There was no single expression to copy and no “correct” way to draw a face. We wanted people to have the freedom to imagine something of their own and put it on paper.
A Sweet Treat… and Maybe a Little Hint?
While waiting for their food, guests also enjoyed complimentary soft serve ice cream.
Sweet, creamy, and a lovely way to pass the time before a corndog or bowl arrived, it brought a little extra sweetness to the celebration.
A nice grand opening surprise, right?
Well… perhaps that’s all it was.

Bringing “More Than a Meal” to Life
At Hankki, “More Than a Meal” is something we want people to experience when they spend time with us.
For the Highfield grand opening, that meant thinking about the whole visit: the welcome at the door, the food, the activities, and the moments people could share along the way.
We wanted you to have something to laugh about over a corndog. Something to draw together. Something to remember after the last bite of soft serve.
The Cheese Pull Challenge and Face Drawing activity were simple ways to invite people to join in. You could test your skills, show your creativity, or enjoy watching someone else have a go. There was room to participate in your own way.
Our goal was to make the day enjoyable for the people who chose to spend it with us. Seeing so many guests take part made all the preparation feel worthwhile.
Good food brought us together, and you brought the celebration to life.
